Long before plant-based dining became as recognised and familiar as it is today, Green Gourmet was quietly revolutionising Sydney's culinary scene. Founded in 1998 by visionary entrepreneur Colin Fung, our mission has always been simple: to showcase the vibrant flavours of plant-based Asian cuisine, redefine what "Chinese food" could be, and do it all in a way that respects our planet.
Colin's journey, from migrant to restaurateur, fuelled his passion for blending traditional Cantonese dishes with the tastes of his adopted home, Australia. This unique perspective, combined with his pioneering spirit (he introduced tofu dishes at his first restaurant, Gourmet Inn, back in 1984!), led to the creation of Green Gourmet, a place where plant-based ingredients are transformed into culinary masterpieces with minimal waste.
Our commitment to sustainability is evident in every part of our business. We upcycle ingredients like mushroom and broccoli stems for our delicious dumpling fillings, and even add vegetable peels to our master stock, ensuring that nothing goes to waste. Alongside our signature Shandong "Not Chicken," a beloved dish since day one, favourites like Crispy Thai "Fish" and Peking "Duck" showcase our innovative spirit and dedication to pushing the boundaries of plant-based cuisine, crafting every sauce and flavour profile from scratch.
With the success of our Newtown location (closed in late 2020), Colin, with the support of his sister Gloria, opened a second Green Gourmet in St Leonards in 2001. Since 2008, we've been delighting customers with our delectable range of vegan cakes and pastries. Our dedication to using premium plant-based ingredients and crafting innovative recipes has made us a go-to destination for those seeking mouthwatering plant-based sweet treats.
